OKAY LADIES....DON'T WEAR PRADA!
What ladies need to know while training for a marathon by Coach Sherri Purnell (Grandma Running since 1980; 15 marathons including Boston & 50k Trail Run)
Okay Ladies, whether it be your first run or not, you need to not worry about what you look like out on the roads.
Of course, you do not want to look bad…just be more interested in comfort and feel. During your long runs, try to find your “marathon outfit." You will have time during these runs to find out if your shorts ride up..if your socks fall down below your heel counter and blister your ankle. Change whatever isn’t right the next long run until you get it right. This will make your marathon more enjoyable.
There’s nothing like having a wedgie for the last 22 miles of a marathon. Do invest in real running clothes if you don’t already have them. From socks to headgear, it will matter. You should never wear 100% cotton. It holds sweat, makes you heavier (God knows no women wants that) and it can make you blister. Prada make look good in magazines, or the runway, but it won't look good after 26.2 miles.
Also, everything you put on your body will matter on marathon day and in your body..we will get to that later. - Sherri
